Xiaomi blocks Chinese users from installing Google Mobile Services

MIUI 12, the international version has GMS

Xiaomi blocks Chinese users from sideloading Google Mobile Services. In Mainland China, Google has been blocked for years however Chinese users could still sideload GMS in their Xiaomi devices.

In compliance with the Chinese Government’s request, Xiaomi no longer allows the Chinese-only handsets of their phones to have GMS. The first phones affected were the Redmi K30 Ultra and the Redmi 10x 5G both of which come with Mediatek Dimensity processors. The processors are the Dimensity 1000+ and 820, respectively.

China-ROM versions can no longer be sideloaded. However, Global ROMs are not affected and will continue to have Google Services. It is not yet confirmed whether rooting China-ROM phones would make it possible to sideload Google Apps again.
