The platform is accused of being used by online predators targeting minors.

The gaming platform Roblox has been given a warning by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC). The platform could also face a possible ban or restriction in the country should the popular gaming platform do not increase its security measures in protecting minors.
Just last year, the platform has been accused as a breeding ground for sexual predators targeting minors. Roblox faced even heavier scrutiny when it banned popular YouTuber Schlep, who is known for creating sting operations within the platform’s assortment of games and catching potential predators. Afterwards, several YouTubers, including Law By Mike and Schlep, are suing the company for failing to address these concerns.
As per a mandate from the Office of the President, government agencies must strengthen their standing in protecting the youth in social media and all other platforms in the digital space.
Aside from strengthening its online safety mechanisms, the platform also has to cooperate and comply with local law enforcement to address these issues, or face restrictions or a ban.
The DICT and CICC said no platform is exempt when it comes to protecting minors online. Even just a few weeks prior, the government had started gunning down the secretive messaging app Telegram as they are accused of tolerating illegal activities, thanks to the nature of the app. The ban did not materialize, and Telegram is accessible to all Filipino users once more.
