Tecno’s Most “Gamerist” Design Yet! The POVA 7 is Now in the Philippines!

Don’t mind it, it’s just the Infinix GT 30 Pro under a new name. Or maybe they’re siblings?

Tecno launched a wildcard here in the Philippines, a budget gaming phone to rival all other gaming phones. It might not look like it but would you believe this phone costs only PHP 7,999? It also has 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM! From the sound of it, it’s definitely a steal, plus you get to keep the cool-looking mecha design!

Sounds great, no? However, to make this price, there are some caveats. Nothing is perfect in this world and nothing should ever be too good or it will look suspicious.

It uses a cliche MediaTek Helio G100 chipset (“Ultimate” apparently). As if we don’t have a myriad of phones using it. In a way, if you have used a Transsion (the brand that owns Tecno, Infinix, and Itel) phone with the same chipset, then you already have experienced the Tecno POVA 7. Unless you want a sophisticatedly futuristic design, we suggest keeping that Infinix GT20 Pro or the Tecno POVA 6 Pro which you may already have.

Another way the brand kept the price this low is the usage of a 120Hz FHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD screen. It also uses a pretty standard set of cameras. There is a 108MP primary shooter and a 2MP depth camera at the back placed at a cool-looking triangular-shaped island. At the front is an 8MP selfie camera. Nothing too “wow” here, maybe except the price but now you know its pros and cons, it’s time to think twice.

As for the battery, it is adequate. Tecno’s POVA series is known for their large battery size before large battery size were even a thing (the POVA 3 has 6000mAh when everyone else had a 5000mAh battery). The battery used here is a 7000mAh Silicon-Carbon (SiC) cell powered by a somewhat mediocre 45W charging rate, at least for this size. It’s better than nothing or simply just 18W.

As a phone with an LCD screen, the fingerprint sensor is embedded underneath the power button. It also lacks 5G services. Other connectivity choices include the USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, and NFC.

There is a slightly cheaper version of the phone with 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM. This costs PHP 6,999. It comes in Geek Black, Hyper Titanium, and Magic Silver.

As part of the brand’s “Back to School” campaign, the phone will be available on TikTok Shop, Lazada, and Shopee starting June 26. Mark your calendars!
