New Year, New Blast! POCO Returns with the X7 Series. Includes a LIMITED Iron Man Edition Phone.

You like Marvel? POCO has you covered.

POCO is making a grand entrance this year with the X7 series. There are two phones teased just before the January 9 launch. These are the POCO X7 and its Pro variant. What’s funny is that the X7 has a more distinct and more unique look than the cliche look of the X7 Pro. You’ll see later down below.

Also, to hype up the phones even further and to symbolize its power, a limited edition Iron Man-themed POCO X7 Pro. This was revealed through POCO Thailand’s Facebook page. Is there hints of this phone being available in the Philippines? Nah, not a single one. However, you bet your local grey market resellers will find a way.

POCO X7

This is the POCO X7. If you’ve been following Xiaomi for a while now, you’ll notice that POCO borrows some of Redmi’s design and rebrand it to theirs. This is the same case here. Also, you may have heard that Xiaomi officially discontinued the POCO website and merged it with their own, to make things a little simpler. The POCO X7 is technically a rebranded Redmi Note 14 Pro. Although there are differences in terms of aesthetics and how it is being marketed and sold. Typically, a POCO phone is only available online while the Xiaomi and Redmi brands are available offline. Also, POCO is geared towards gamers and their phones have a special “Racing Yellow” variant, as seen in the image above.

If we’re following the Redmi Note 14 Pro, then we can confirm the specs of the POCO X7. These include a 1.5K curved AMOLED screen protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and also comes with120Hz refresh rate and 3000 nits of peak brightness. In addition, the phone is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra chipset (the “Ultra” is just a moniker, and it should differ little from the base D7300).

If the POCO X7 is a rebranded Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, then it should have an identical camera system. Photo: Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G

In terms of cameras, there are two functional and one aesthetic. It’s 2025 and they still have not gotten rid of the 2MP parasite completely. The two functional cameras are the 50MP “Light Fusion 800” aka the Sony Lytia LYT-600 with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide camera. The third functional camera, located at the front, is a 20MP unit. There is a 2MP depth sensor but we don’t discuss that.

The phone is also conditioned to survive in tough weather conditions. It seems that, year after year, companies are more willing to include previously flagship-only features in more affordable handsets, and this includes the IP68 rating that the X7 has. Talk about durability! Although the poster shows that it supports “IP69”, officially, it’s only IP68 but that’s more than enough for everyday use, even for our strong-standing front-liners.

The battery is a bit of a mixed bag, we’re afraid. It’s got a large 5500mAh battery yes, but if we’re following the Redmi Note 14 Pro, the POCO X7 only has 45W fast charging, a disappointment considering its aim of being a gaming phone.

Among other features, there is an IR blaster, a Xiaomi signature, a USB-C port, stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio, and an in-display fingerprint reader. The phone comes in POCO Yellow with other colours yet to be announced.

POCO X7 PRO

If the POCO X7 is based on the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, then the POCO X7 Pro is based on a more powerful, more gaming-oriented Redmi phone, the Redmi Turbo 4.

Because of that, we can confirm the specs if we’re following that phone strictly, since it has been out for a while in China. The POCO X7 Pro, or in this case, the Redmi Turbo 4, has a more linear and simple design, as if it was released a few years ago. They do say “less is more” but the POCO X7 feels more outstanding and modern in our view. Then again, beauty is subjective.

Aside from the design, the phone also features a dual-tone colour, the iconic POCO Yellow. If we’re talking about specs, then the POCO X7 Pro comes with a 6.67″ 1.5K AMOLED screen with the same featurettes as with the POCO X7, including HDR10+ support, 12-bit colour, Dolby Vision, and 3200nits peak brightness with 2560Hz touch sampling rate.

In terms of chipset, the POCO X7 Pro is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra chipset with 12 or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and either 256 or 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. Standard things a gaming phone in 2025 must have if it wants to stay ahead of the competition, even for years to come. The Dimensity 8400 is a brand new chipset which, according to MediaTek, has a performance boost of 41% and power efficiency of 44% better than the Dimensity 8300.

The chipset’s main big feature is that all of its eight cores are performance cores, consisting of the Cortex A725 CPU with a clock speed of 3.25GHz. That’s quite a bold move the brand did, so we’re waiting for a review to see how efficiently it can handle heat. Granted that the POCO X7 Pro has liquid cooling, but we’ll see how it stands out.

Now, you can see that the phone has only two cameras. That’s a good thing because we’re less likely to see the useless 2MP cameras. In the case of the Redmi Turbo 4/POCO X7 Pro, they only kept the essentials, which are the 50MP primary and 8MP ultrawide alongside the 20MP selfie camera. No changes here.

The X7 Pro comes in POCO Yellow and in Green and Black. Both the X7 and X7 Pro are to be released on January 9 which is frankly only four days from the time we wrote this article. 2025 is going to be a grand day for smartphones and we’re just at the beginning of the year.

It may launch in India first, then globally. Again, there is a limited-edition Iron Man POCO X7 Pro which may or may not be officially available here. If you really want to, you can find a way of obtaining one either by going to Thailand or by finding a reputable grey market seller.
