Two siblings intertwined with fate. One of them lost. One of them found.
It’s not often that the Philippines gets to have a “first launch” on a smartphone. It seems like Nubia knows its market pretty well (the brand is otherwise known as “ZTE” elsewhere, and “Nubia” is a sub-brand). While its twin, the Blade V70 does not appear to be available in the Philippines anytime soon, the Nubia V70 is going to be. While the two are similar in price, target market, and cameras, they differ in design. They perfectly describe what siblings are in a family.
To recall, the Blade V70 heavily resembles the Honor X8b. In the case of the Nubia V70 design, it appears to resemble more of an iPhone, or even closer, a budget Transsion phone, like the Tecno Spark Go or the Infinix Hot 40i. It’s not the most unique, but still a pretty good design, nonetheless. “Less is more”, and being simple can be rather pleasing, than going over-the-top. Just like its sister phone, the Nubia V70 design also feature a leather back and a glass-like finish.
Anyway, the phone is a budget phone outright. It was first teased on Nubia Philippines’ Instagram with a suggested retail price of PHP 5,299 (4/256). The phone isn’t out yet but when you pre-order on November 28, you can get a PHP 795 discount and a free wireless speaker worth PHP 899. It’s quite a value package for an early bird sale. 14GB RAM because there is an extra 10GB virtual RAM. Just like its name, the performance difference is virtual rather than practical.
The phone is available in the Philippines’ e-commerce trifecta: Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop.
The display is what you could expect from a phone at its price. It features a 6.7″ HD+ (1600x720px) 120Hz IPS LCD, like its sister. While the Blade V70 has its chipset unannounced, the Nubia V70 uses a UNISOC Tiger T606 with 4GB RAM and 256GB ROM. If we’re looking at the similarities, it is more than likely that the Blade V70 uses the same chip.
There is a 50MP camera at the back with some extra fillers, as well as a 5MP selfie camera. It also uses the same battery capacity, 5000mAh and the same charging rate, 22.5W. The charger comes with the phone and is charged via USB-C. The iconic red power button is also there, doubling as a fingerprint scanner.
The phone comes in four classy colours. These include Citrus Orange, which uses a leathered back, Jade Green, which also has a leathered back, and two colours with a glass back, or probably “glasstic”. These are Rose Pink and Stone Grey.
Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC. It also has a dual SIM Card slot and a MicroSD Card slot for storage expansion, of up to 1TB.
