This tech charges a phone from empty to full in just 5 minutes! And it also consumes more power than your basic electric fan.
If you believe 15W is slow, 45W is fast, and 150W is overkill, then get ready to be shocked (no pun intended) for realme’s 320W Supersonic Charge! It has beaten the previous record holder, also from realme, which has 240W fast charging. Some of you might be worried about battery degradation and safety. Worry not, realme has thought of that too. That is why, aside from this ultra fast charging technology, the brand has also introduced its “AirGap Transformer” that trickles the phone’s charging to 20W once it reaches a certain threshold, which is around 90-98%
The video above shows realme’s demonstration of how this new charging tech works. In it, the brand shows how their test phone managed to reach 90% in just 4 minutes and then it slows down here to protect the battery. That is why it took nearly 5 minutes for the phone to fully charge. That is insanely impressive. If this goes into serial production, then you can wake up early in the morning and charge your dead phone to full in a matter of minutes. It’s like you never even forgot.
Aside from that, you can find in the video a special folded 4,420mAh battery which could be a sign that the brand is preparing to launch its first foldable phone. It makes sense since its main rival, Xiaomi, has been doing that for a while already, and Tecno already has one too. We’ll see where this goes and we hope it’s affordable, clamshell or not.
While the event focuses mainly on this new charging tech, the brand also introduced a few things. One of these is the solid-state button, which acts as a dedicated assistant button but primarily functions as a shutter. Another is its anti-reflective display, which, from the name alone, is designed to eliminate or at least reduce glare when you use it near light sources. It’s quite annoying to have a good gaming session, only for the glass’ reflection to completely block your view, so we’re hoping this goes beyond concept and actually into production.
Of course, we cannot end a tech event without mentioning AI. Buzzword of the year, everyone! Today’s menu includes two generative AI features. The first is AI Motion Picture and the other is AI Gaming Super Resolution. The former basically turns a selected image into a 25-frame video/GIF, while the latter is an AI upscaling mechanism to ensure your games are always smooth and of high-quality.
