With affordable devices that even Xiaomi couldn’t beat, how can they not be attractive to your typical Filipino user?
IDC publishes its Q1 2024 for Smartphone Shipments in Southeast Asia. Interestingly, out of all countries in Southeast Asia, only the Philippines is different. While every country has Samsung or Oppo at the top of the list, Transsion is the top smartphone brand in the country, with a massive 188% annual growth and dominating 44% of the market through its brands Infinix, Itel, and Tecno. It shouldn’t be a surprise as the brand has been going very aggressively with its top-notch smartphones at a very low price that even Xiaomi couldn’t beat.
IDC Associate Research Director Kiranjeet Kaur said that smartphone shipments continued to grow since mid 2023 because of the aggressive marketing and strategy in the budget-end segment, phones priced under USD 100 (~PHP 5.5K). Samsung remained the top spot in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam due to the success of the A-series and the launch of the all-new Galaxy S24 series, which also includes the S24 Ultra. IDC also noted that Transsion grew 3x as fast versus its competitors.
While it may not be the top brand in other neighboring countries, it did enjoy quite a skyrocketing growth. And this growth is beyond 100% too. Which means the brand is on a roll this year. In Malaysia, Transsion enjoys a whopping 443% YoY growth and 279% in Indonesia! If you look carefully at the table, other brands have a slow growth, or declining sales despite dominating the market more. Yes, this includes Xiaomi and Samsung.

The aesthetics says it all as well.
