Wash, Rinse, Repeat. It’s the same thing with these budget phones.
The Tecno POVA 4 exists, and the POVA 5 is almost the same thing but with shinier colour options and a slightly refined design. So, it really is not that exciting. There would also be a POVA 5 Pro with an OLED display. The phone is offered in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, as well as the Middle East and Africa. There’s also going to be a limited-edition Free Fire-themed phone.
The design here, called Turbo Mecha, takes on a futuristic theme. It certainly stands against other budget phones which makes it unique. However, so does the POVA 4. The main difference here appears to be the camera layout, featuring a more trapezoidal design.
The display is a 6.78″ FullHD+ (2460x1080px) IPS LCD screen with 120Hz refresh rate. The same as the POVA 4.
Inside is the neverending MediaTek Helio G99 with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM. Both of these are expandable. There’s also a graphene heatsink that cools the phone whenever you game hard.
The cameras are also unchanged. There’s your 50MP Primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, the 8MP camera is available.
Its most notable asset is its large 6000mAh battery accompanied by a 45W USB-C port which charges the phone to full in one hour. The large battery also makes the POVA 5 capable of charging other phones… at an abysmal 10W speed.
It has a Z-Axis Linear motor and speakers with DTS Sound. It has no 5G services thanks to its chipset. It comes in Mecha Black, Hurricane Blue, and Amber Gold. So far, no prices have been announced.
There’s also the POVA Neo 3 which is the same exact phone albeit with watered-down specs such as an HD+ screen and a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. However, it uses an even larger 7000mAh battery and the same 45W charging rate.
The chipset it uses, as well as the display, is why this phone is such a sidegrade. If you have a POVA 4, the POVA 5 is not necessary. Since these two are only released a few months apart, they would also get the same level of updates, if Tecno is willing to do so. Aside from the large battery, the POVA 5 does not offer anything different than what the POVA 4 is capable of.
