This is where the camera magic begins…
During a livestream, HONOR unveiled the Magic5 Pro, a flagship phone that has been making rounds since end of May. The company is quite excited to release it and has been teasing the community after the opening of the SM Marilao and SM Grand Central Stores. It mainly boasts about its top-notch camera performance.

However, the phone isn’t all cameras. The display, battery life, IP68 rating, and performance are also something to look at.
To recall, the phone features a curved QHD+ screen with 120Hz refresh rate. When we got a hold of it, the phone is really bright, even outdoors at night. It’s even brighter than our own laptop screens at times. 1800nits max brightness is no joke! We also love how the colours pop, something you would never see on an IPS screen.
The cameras here are like a perfect trifecta. It is even shaped like one. The camera bump, according to Honor, is inspired by the first photograph of the Black Hole. The middle has a label reading “100x” meaning it could take pictures of the moon and other things from far away. Yep, this one features a periscope lens as well as a 3D ToF lens to maintain excellent focus.
All three cameras have perfectly equal 50MP resolution but they all differ in functionality. One is the primary (with OIS), the other for ultrawide, and finally, the telephoto. The front camera also gets extra treatment. Aside from the 12MP Primary, you also get a 3D ToF sensor which is really great for large groups since you need to focus a lot when the phone is away from arm’s length.
Oh, did we forget to mention that the phone is currently in third place in DXOMark’s camera tests? In their tests, the HONOR Magic5 Pro’s camera capabilities exceed that of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro.
The chipset used here is, of course, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the latest flagship chip from Qualcomm manufactured using a 2nd-gen 4nm TSMC process. This means the phone can run the all-new Yuzu Emulator which has very demanding specs.
It has a 5100mAh battery paired with 66W fast charging. During the phone’s showcase, the phone died but it only took about 10 minutes until the phone is at 13% again. That is quite fast! Not only that, if you have a wireless charging dock, the phone can charge rapidly too, 50W fast in fact. Reverse charging is also supported.
The phone has a stereo speaker system. One at the bottom and the other at the top. It also has an in-display fingerprint scanner, a dual SIM slot, 5G services, Bluetooth 5.3, IP68 rating which helps when you accidentally dunk the phone into the pool (stay away from saltwater though, the phone will corrode), and NFC. It comes in Meadow Green and Black.
The phone is now available for pre-ordering for only PHP 59,990 for the 12/512 trim. This actually makes it affordable among competing flagships. It runs MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13. The pre-order period starts today until June 11 only. The benefit of pre-ordering is that you get exclusive freebies. For this phone, you get a FREE Honor Band6 and HONOR FreeBuds X3 Lite. The latter of which we have reviewed. So go check it out!
