Phones with a stylus do come rare now, especially if it’s in the midrange.
It has been so long since we got a phone with a stylus. Not that everyone is making one nowadays, especially in the midrange tier. It’s nice to see Motorola has not given up this tradition. The only other company that does this is LG but they have departed from the mobile market after suffering so many losses.
The phone is sadly only available in the United States since that’s Motorola’s biggest market share, even after being purchased by Lenovo. We’re still hoping for a global and Philippine release.
So what is the Moto G Stylus exactly? It’s a phone designed to make everyday notes. It’s as straightforward as that. Even its tagline said “High Speed Creativity” so the phone combines performance with productivity. Its design is reminiscent of its 2022 predecessor and comes in two colours: Rose Champagne and Cosmic Black. The camera layout is different though.
The display uses an IPS LCD material, measures 6.6 inches with FullHD+ (2400x1080px) resolution, and comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. A noticeable improvement over the 90Hz of its predecessor, albeit the screen here is slightly smaller.
The chipset here is vastly improved. Now it uses a newer Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset with 5G connectivity as opposed to the MediaTek Helio G88. It comes with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage. This new chipset is the successor to the popular Snapdragon 695 with 35% increased GPU power and 40% CPU power.
It comes with a fully functional camera setup at the back, a surprise indeed but a welcome one. There is your typical 50MP camera and an 8MP ultrawide one with macro capabilities. The front-dot camera has a 16MP resolution. The cameras here were retained from the predecessor but the 2MP depth sensor is absent. That’s for the better.
It has a 5000mAh battery with 20W fast charging. In comparison, the 2022 phone came with only 10W charging. It uses a USB-C port to charge and transfer files and also has a 3.5mm jack, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and MicroSD Card slot and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
It runs MyUX based on Android 13 and comes with 5G connectivity, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6/6e, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC
It is currently only available in the US through Cricket Wireless. It costs USD 399 (~PHP 22.3K) to purchase. You can also register through Motorola’s website to obtain a unit. The unlocked version would come much later, on June 16th.
