Itel S23, a sub-5K budget phone with 8GB RAM and 50MP camera spotted in Shopee!

In the future, even 4GB RAM would be considered Android Go

Itel is Transsion’s budget arm and arguably the quietest between Infinix and Tecno. They cater to the ultra-budget market, a market where people buy phones because they need them to perform basic tasks and nothing more.

Itel’s naming scheme is also not the greatest. This can be exemplified with their newest release, the (not Galaxy) S23. Naming aside, the phone is actually pretty good. You get 8GB RAM on a sub-5K phone which is almost unheard of.

The display is simple. It is a 6.6″ waterdrop cutout HD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate. This waterdrop notch houses the 8MP selfie camera and on the top bezel resides the flash.

There is a circular camera array which houses the 50MP primary camera… and the other which is not worth mentioning.

The chipset used here is the UNISOC Tiger T606 paired with 4 or 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. You also get Virtual RAM support (up to 8GB) and a MicroSD Card slot.

The phone has a 5000mAh battery inside but other specifications like charging speed and port are not mentioned.

Other features include a 3.5mm jack and loudspeakers which are frankly basic but that’s what the phone is and it’s intended to cater to most casual users.

It comes in white and black and price starts at PHP 4,299 (4/128) and PHP 4,999 (8/128) respectively. These price ranges are more than amazing because 8GB RAM phones at sub-5K are a very rare sight. The phone is available on Shopee. When you enter the code ITELS23F, you’ll get PHP 100 off your purchase for a limited time only. Also, for every purchase of the phone, you get a FREE Itel Earbuds T11 until supplies last.

Until today, and again on June 6, the phone is available at a discount. PHP 3,699 for the 4/128 trim and PHP 4,299 for the 8/128 trim.

If you’re not into Itel. the other alternative is the Infinix Hot 30 Play which is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G37 chipset instead and comes with a similar price tag.

Be wary though, Transsion is not known for its robust software or continuous updates.
