It tells stories, it rivals ChatGPT, and it tests out Google’s LamDA AI development.
This is Bard, a type of AI chatbot that Google has been making as a response to ChatGPT’s popularity and BingAI’s imminent threat. It’s basically them saying “Hey, we make AI too, long before you did.” It uses the company’s proprietary LamDA AI technology which has been in development since 2015.
It is now available in the Philippines but it’s still a work in progress. Unlike BingAI, there’s no limit on how much text can it produce before refreshing a new chat. All a user needs to do is sign in to their Google Account and visit the Bard website. Chat with it as you would with BingAI and ChatGPT. Take note that, as it is still in development, what it says may be inaccurate, non-factual, or biased.
It is still best that, when using it for research, to cross-check resources to see if they’re accurate and up-to-date. While Bard and other chatbots are accurate most of the time, there are times when they will slip and send out wrong or closed information.
Also, aside from English, the chatbot can also communicate in both Korean and Japanese. About 40 more languages would be added soon. While AI is very useful and convenient, there are still concerns regarding its future, including how it can easily manipulate papers, voices, and even artwork. Though currently, these things are not foolproof, it’s fascinating to see how “human-like” they feel.
Always keep in mind that these AI chatbots are secondary sources and thus always consider cross-checking before posting its results on your thesis. We actually use AI from time to time to develop articles as a form of experiment. We continue to use AI and our cross-checking capabilities before publishing and we also add disclaimers that some of the words or phrases created by the chatbot may not be 100% accurate. It is also important to note that these tools can easily be manipulated even if what information they give is completely factual and accurate.
