ICYMI: the Moto G73 5G and G53 5G are official! These phones come with a Dimensity 920 and Snapdragon 480+ chipset respectively.

Another typical 5G phone to add to your cart

We noticed a pattern here when Motorola releases new smartphones. It seems like they’re following in Samsung’s footsteps. Aside from the G100 series and the Edge series of flagships, their budget and midrangers are linear, kinda like the Samsung A series. For Motorola’s case, the G series starts at G1x series, and then goes higher by ten. The G7x series is usually the highest end of the G series. The representing the “x” is the generational number. Like Samsung, Lenovo rebooted the G series so you would be less confused by them. This is honestly good and friendly for consumers.

With that observation aside, let’s take a look at the G53 and G73. Two nearly identical phones (another trait common to Samsung’s Galaxy A series) but have different components and offerings. Let’s start with the G53 first.

Motorola G53

Motorola G53 as it was released in China

The Motorola G53 is a midrange phone, albeit at the lower end of the spectrum. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ chipset. As you could tell, the chipset is a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 480 which mostly only premium brands use. Specifically, manufacturers selling in the US and Europe mainly.

It features a 6.5″ FullHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD screen with 120Hz refresh rate. It also only features two cameras and a single 16MP front snapper. It uses a simple design, with a 50MP primary camera and 8MP ultrawide situated at the top right corner. It is wise to go for an 8MP ultrawide instead of the dreaded 2MP+2MP setup as the 8MP ultrawide at least has a use, unlike the aforementioned two.

It is powered by a 5000mAh battery with 30W fast charging. A common trait of Motorola phones is that they mainly use MyUX which has a near-stock feel to it. It is available with 4, 6, or 8GB RAM and 64 or 128GB internal storage with a MicroSD Card to further expand your storage externally.

The phone is currently available in Europe and the US. Specifically, in Germany. It is priced at EUR 249 (~Php 14.7K). No word yet for the Philippines but it is now available in select markets from Europe and Latin America.

Motorola G73

Obviously the higher-end of the two. This phone has the same screen, battery size and charging speed, and 50MP primary camera. The main difference is the chipset used which is a MediaTek Dimensity 920 complemented with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. It is not yet known whether other RAM/Storage options exist.

The 8MP ultrawide has been replaced with a 2MP macro instead. Why? We don’t know either but it’s probably for cost-cutting purposes. The front camera resolution has been halved as well.

As with the G53, this phone is available in the same markets and none of them is the Philippines. We’ll let you know if they are indeed planning a release here.
