MediaTek officially releases the Pentonic 700 chipset for Premium 4K TVs!

1080p TVs are now getting really old

1080p TVs are now considered “budget” TVs as 4K TVs become rapidly more common. Soon, we will be able to see developments for 8K and 16K TVs. It increases every other year. To rapidly respond to the growing needs of consumers, MediaTek released the Pentonic 700 TV chipset with support for 4K resolution at 120Hz refresh rates! Now you can play your favourite first-person shooters without all that weird motion blur!

The chipset’s main feature is its support for 4K@120Hz screens as well as support for Dolby Vision IQ. It also has an integrated 4K120 MEMC and TCON, with a bonus for gaming optimization.

“MediaTek’s Pentonic series brings more intelligence to smart TVs with a host of AI-powered picture quality enhancements,” said Alex Chen, General Manager of the TV Business Unit at MediaTek. “Smart TV brands can count on Pentonic 700 to deliver incredible experiences whether consumers are watching videos or sports, gaming, or using their TV as a control center for their other smart devices.”

The Pentonic 700 has support for MediaTek’s developed Super AI Resolution tech, AI Picture Quality (AI-PQ) Scene and Object Recognition, and an integrated AI Processing Unit (APU). The aforementioned Dolby Vision IQ allows for sharp and colour-accurate imagery by improving contrasts and brightness, especially in darker areas of the image.

In addition, you can multitask with this chipset thanks to its PIP (Picture-in-Picture) feature, as well as PBP (Picture-by-Picture) support. You can, for example, video call with loved ones while also watching streaming content all at the same time. Very useful for conferencing situations.

While intended for 120Hz TVs, MediaTek also allows for Variable Refresh Rates (VRR) so that screens with 144Hz refresh rates are also supported. This allows users to have a wide array of flexibility and customization. Choose the refresh rate that is comfortable for you!

For gaming, the Pentonic 700 features an HDMI 2.1 port and support for Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) that makes the screen respond to any fast-paced situation almost instantaneously. Also, Dolby Atmos is here to stay. It gives your TVs a crispy, clear, and rich sound experience.

If your TV supports voice assistants such as Google Assistant, the Pentonic 700 also has support to it, too.

In terms of connectivity, it has support for Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and/or Wi-Fi 7 wireless tech. To achieve this, brands can implement MediaTek’s Filogic series of connectivity chips. This fast and ultra-efficient system allows for seamless cloud gaming and streaming.

The Pentonic 700 series is expected to be released within the fourth quarter of 2022.
