Lava Blaze is a budget phone with a glass design.

But at the cost of the phone’s terrible spec sheet. Cutting corners all throughout.

If you buy budget phones, almost all of them carry a plastic back coated with a matte or glossy finish to mimic that of glass or metal. What if we tell you it is possible to legitimately put “luxurious” materials over a budget phone? That’s where the Lava Blaze stands.

Generic design aside (seriously we’ve seen this design on a dozen other phones like the Realme 9 series and the Note 11T series), the phone does look premium but when you look inside it’s just a Toyota Corolla. By that, we mean that when you see it from the outside, it looks luxurious and aggressive but once you get inside, it’s full of mundane crap.

The phone has a 6.5in. HD+ (1600x720px) IPS LCD screen with a waterdrop notch. There is an 8MP front camera sitting on top of that notch too. It has an ageing MediaTek Helio A22 chipset inside coupled with 3GB RAM (plus another 3GB virtual RAM) and 64GB internal storage. Lava is promising up to two years of security updates but it will not likely get any major Android updates, no one should really expect it for its price anyway.

There is a triple camera setup at the back consisting of a 13mp primary camera alongside two auxiliaries that Lava did not specify. We’re highly guessing these are the macro and depth cameras.

It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a slow face unlock (about 1.1s to process). Its battery has a 5000mAh capacity charged at 10W. At least the company is generous enough to save a USB-C port to charge. Other companies would have resorted to MicroUSB. There is also a 3.5mm jack and an FM Radio receiver.

It has 4G services, Bluetooth 5.0, and single-band 2.4GHz WiFi. It has a triple card slot which means you don’t have to choose between a 4G SIM and a MicroSD card. Another good side of the phone is that it runs the full version of Android, not the diet version of it.

The phone has an array of colours to choose from, all made with premium glass. Choose from Green, Black, Light Blue, and Red. As an India-only company, the phone is only to be sold in India and would cost INR 8,700 (~Php 6.1K).

Lava is also offering a one-time free screen replacement if you happen to crack it. In addition, they will also send a technician right to your doorstep through the company’s “Free Service at Home” feature. It saves you time going through the repair center but you have to pay for the repair of your phone.

Are you willing to pay for a premium finish at the cost of your phone’s functionality?
