SSD inside a phone? Can’t wait to see the ultra fast boot speeds.
During an event in China, Lenovo has revealed another phone for its Legion series, which are probably Lenovo’s best-selling and best-performing handsets available on the market, and it shows. They put a lot of effort into their development of them and they have been a great success.
The Legion Y90 is a gaming phone with a 6.9in. FHD+ (2460x1080px) AMOLED panel with 144Hz refresh rate and 720Hz multi-touch touch sampling rate so the phone responds lightning fast. It is a gaming handset after all and when you do hardcore gaming on a phone, you have to move and think fast, especially in the competitive scene. We don’t like how the phone stayed at FHD+ though when it could have gone higher to at least 1440p.
The chipset inside is the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 paired with either 12, 16, or 18GB LPDDR5 RAM and either 256/512GB internal storage and, check this, a dedicated 128GB SSD based on a RAID 0 format. Is this thing a gaming laptop or a phone? This is probably the most interesting part of this phone. They managed to fit a tiny SSD in there, along with a cooling system, battery, cameras, among other things!
Speaking of battery, it has a 5600mAh battery which is slightly bigger than usual (again, they managed to fit a damn SSD into this) coupled with 68W fast charging that can fully charge a battery from empty to full in just 35 minutes. The included VC cooling inside provides 4W extra performance and can improve write speeds by 50%, according to Lenovo.
The cameras are pretty much midrange territory, but we don’t mind since it’s a gaming phone after all. It has a 64mp main camera coupled with a 13mp 120° ultrawide camera, and a 16mp front camera. Unlike the previous Legion phone, this one doesn’t use a pop-up camera.
There is also a stereo speaker system, in-display fingerprint sensor, RGB lighting, Dolby Atmos, Smart PA, Wi-Fi 6E, gaming shoulder triggers, and X-Axis vibration motors for the immersive gaming experience.
There are two USB-C ports but the other one supports data transmission, up to 10Gbps, reverse charging, DP video output, and OTG. It comes in one colour: Titanium Gray.
The phone will be on sale in China starting 10th March. There are no reports yet of it being available internationally, however.
