As early leaks, take this with a grain of salt.
Xiaomi is a type of company that will make your 2-month-old phone look like it was manufactured two years ago when it really isn’t. The depreciation for their phones is really high, especially on the budget side. They don’t carry a lot of value but they are loved for having great hardware at a stupendously low cost.
A number of Xiaomi smartphones have appeared online via Digital Chat Station. Currently they are just codenames, but there are a few hidden features revealed about them.
The company has also recently unveiled their newest flagships called “Xiaomi 12 series” in China. These are yet to appear globally. There are also reports suggesting that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra may also see global release. If you can recall, the Mi 11 Ultra was not released globally.
Going back to the leaks, a number of codenames were revealed, all referring to Xiaomi phones. The first four (“munch, “rubens”, “matisse”, and “fog”) are codenames to the already released Redmi K50 series. These are the Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, Redmi K50 Pro+, and Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, respectively. These phones use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and DImensity 9000 chips, but there are rumours that Xiaomi might release handsets in the series with the Snapdragon 870 and Dimensity 8000 chips.
The next two phones, named after Norse deities “thor” and “loki”, are premium devices with cameras as their main focus. Leakers suggest that these two phones will carry a 200MP camera and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.
The last six names are “light”, “thunder”, “zizhan”, “zijin”, “taoyao”, and “opal”, respectively. The first two are internal names of Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable phones — Xiaomi Flip and Mix Fold 2, while the last four are for the upcoming Redmi Note 12 series that’s coming in the latter half of the year. Pretty much Xiaomi saw how the Redmi Note 11 series flopped so hard, so they better improve on this one.
We don’t have any reliable info yet on the two foldable phones. The Redmi Note 12 series however, may include a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip which is a supposed replacement for the Snapdragon 700 series chip. We don’t have any information yet regarding the specs of the former. We also don’t know if the said chip also applies for global, or will it stay for the Chinese variants only.
