Alexa is being retired after 25 years of service, and no it’s not that Alexa.

Heh, you thought its the virtual assistant? Yeah…

Alexa Internet is a type of web service owned by Amazon. It ranks every website per visit, ranging from the most visited website to the least. Even if this is not the virtual assistant, the website is usually a go-to when searching for the most popular website, even Wikipedia uses it as a source, so it’s strange that the research firm is shutting down.

Twenty-five years ago, we founded Alexa Internet. After two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022. Thank you for making us your go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and so much more.
We have been proud to serve you as customers.

Alexa Internet is best known as Alexa Rank. As mentioned earlier, it indexes websites based on the number of visits. The research firm takes a small sample from users who use their browser extension and from websites that use its tools to monitor the website’s traffic.

While Alexa Rank will soon cease to exist, there are a number of alternatives available such as SimilarWeb and SemRush.
