CES 2022 Highlights: Omnivision has presented its first 200mp sensor

Do we really need THAT MANY megapixels?

High megapixel counts are all the rage these days, for some reason. They do not improve the quality of your photos but they do provide increased details and better zooming due to the high number of megapixels. This type of sensor is pretty good for digital zoom, where you can zoom in and see things in detail.

Omnivision has presented its first 200mp sensor called the OVB0BH0. It is pixel-binned through a 16-cell binning technology and the result is a crispy 12.5MP image. This is also the first 200mp sensor with a Quad Phase Detection for a rapidly fast autofocus performance

In terms of video, there’s also a 4K video with 16x sensitivity. In low light, the resulting image is 12.5mp, which is equivalent to 2.44µm with pixel 44 binning. It can record in 4K@24fps as well as 8K video at 30fps.

The main focus for this sensor is its capabilities in low light, which the company claims is “the best in the class” and can deliver an enhanced camera experience.

If you can recall, Samsung has released a 200mp sensor as well, this might be its competitor.
