Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor are confirmed to use the flagship chip
Yesterday, Mediatek has launched the Mediatek Dimensity 9000 globally! The chipset has been confirmed to be adopted by Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Honor and will be available across multiple smartphones starting Q1 2022.
If you can recall correctly, Motorola made a headstart for the Mediatek Dimensity 9000 with their Moto Edge X30 series. Also, the processor has also been proven to be more powerful in terms of AI in comparison to Google Tensor, a chip advertised mainly for AI capabilities.
“The Dimensity 9000 is a milestone for MediaTek, highlighting our rise to incredible with a true flagship 5G smartphone chip. This chip signals MediaTek and our Dimensity family has entered a new phase of innovation,” said Dr. Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “The Dimensity 9000 is the most powerful and energy-efficient chip to date, delivering a number of industry firsts and a full suite of features for the most discerning tech enthusiasts.”
The chipset is built upon a 4nm TSMC process and features a 1-3-4 architecture comprising of a 3.05GHz Cortex-X2 ultra core, 2.85GHz Cortex-A710 super cores, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores with no announced clock speeds, respectively. It is also the first SoC to use the Mali-G710 for graphics and also features a Vulkan SDK raytracing capability. This GPU is also boosted by Mediatek’s own HyperEngine 5.0. In terms of AI performance, the chip features a 5th generation APU that provides 4x better power efficiency. The chipset supports up to 7500Mbps LPDDR5X RAM.
Other notable features of the chipset include Wi-Fi 6/6E for ultra-fast Wi-Fi speeds, Bluetooth 5.3, 5G services, and Mediatek’s Open Resource architecture that allows manufacturers to freely customise the chipset to suit their own needs. This program was seen first on the Mediatek Dimensity 1200 5G chip.
In terms of display, the chip support displays up to WQHD+ (2K resolution) for up to 144Hz refresh rate. Mediatek’s Display Sync 2.0 allows for flagship-level power efficiency so that even when using AMOLED screens with AODs, the battery won’t deplete as fast. This chipset also includes Mediatek’s 18-bit ISP called Imagiq 790 that can support up to 320mp on a single camera. The first for any type of ISP and smartphone. This ISP can record in 4K HDR and up to three cameras simultaneously in 18-bit HDR.
