The next-generation Qualcomm flagship chip uses a Samsung 4nm process.
Qualcomm announced an upcoming event on their website which will be held on 30th November up until 2nd December. The most expected part of this event is their upcoming flagship chipset called the Snapdragon 898. There are already a number of unknown phones which are said to come with this chipset.
There are phones already in some benchmarks that reveal the SM8450 chipset, otherwise known as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898. From here, we can identify the specs of the chipset. The new-gen flagship chip is expected to be powered by a Cortex X2 CPU main core clocked at 3.0GHz along with three Cortex-A710 mid-cores clocked at 2.5GHz and finally, four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores clocked at 1.79GHz. Effectively making this a 1+3+4 setup.
In terms of GPU, the SD898 is said to come with the Adreno 730 which has architectural improvements over its predecessor. As said in the title, the chipset would be based on Samsung’s 4nm fabrication process which promises up to 20% performance increase. There would be a Qualcomm X65 modem for connectivity, which has support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6 technologies. This modem has a theoretical down speed of up to 10Gbps.
According to rumours, the first phone that would come with this chipset is the Xiaomi 12 series which is said to arrive at the end of the year. Motorola has also been teasing a new device called the Motorola Edge X which is also rumoured to come with the chipset. It’s probably not a coincidence that these two devices were announced or would launch sometime during the end of the year, and that these two are flagship devices.
We hope that Qualcomm reveals more of the flagship chip as the mobile chipset race is quite interesting. We hope that its performance is the same or better in practice than in theory.
