Both are 5G midrange chipsets based on a 6nm TSMC process!
Three days ago, Mediatek announced two new processors under the Dimensity line, the Dimensity 810 and 920, both of which are manufactured under the 6nm process. The processors promise better power efficiency and performance than their predecessors.
Dimensity 920
The Mediatek Dimensity 920 is based on a 6nm process and is powered by an octa core CPU composing of a 4x Cortex A-78 performance CPU clocked at 2.5GHz and 4x Cortex A-55 power efficiency cores clocked at 2GHz. For the GPU, Mediatek will use a Mali-G68 GPU which has the same or similar technical specifications of the larger G78 GPU but optimized for power efficiency. This chipset offers 9% better performance than the Dimensity 900
The chipset can be paired alongside a LPDDR4x RAM or LPDDR5 RAM as well as UFS 2.2 or 3.1 storage. For cameras, the chipset can support up to 108mp single sensor and support up to 4K video. The chipset also supports flagship-grade noise cancellation technologies
For display supports, the chipset can support up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to FHD+ resolution. Like the Dimensity 900, this chipset has “dynamic refresh rate” that can adjust the refresh rate of your device depending on what app you are using.
For connectivity, as a Dimensity processor, it supports 5G along with Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 integration.
Dimensity 810
Another chipset announced by Mediatek is the Dimensity 810 which is the successor to the Dimensity 800u processor. The key features of this chipset include power efficiency along with increased performance and enhanced display performance.
Like the Dimensity 920, this chipset supports up to 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ screen resolution along with 5G support.
The chipset uses an octa-core CPU powered by Cortex A-76 with up to 2.4GHz clock speed and Cortex A-55 power efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz. In simple terms it’s only marginally slower than the Dimensity 920 on paper so it should not matter as much on which phone uses these chipsets, either way, you should get similar performance.
The chipset only supports LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage unlike the Dimensity 920 which supports both LPDDR5 and LPDDR4x as well as UFS 3.1 and 2.2 storage.
This chipset only supports 64mp natively (with pixel binning, manufacturers can sneak in a way to implement 108mp cameras despite the support only saying 64mp). The chipset does support high-end AI camera features like AI Bokeh and AI Colour that was made possible in collaboration with Arcsoft.
The chipsets are expected to be released this Q3 2021
