On a recent post by Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, he has announced that the company will soon integrate with Oppo, its parent company, whose parent company is BBK Electronics.
“Over the past eight years, the OnePlus brand has grown from an exciting newcomer into a global force to be reckoned with. In the premium category, we have been widely recognized in the industry for the quality of our products and the ability to outperform other brands with significantly larger budgets. And among tech enthusiasts like many of you, we have built a large and highly engaged community with a focus on openness and co-creation.” Pete Lau said in his post.
OnePlus has integrated some of its teams with Oppo, and there is also a Chinese device that uses ColorOS but is branded to OnePlus. OnePlus said that this integration with Oppo helps them create better phones and/or electronic devices because they will have more resources at hand. Though it is not sure yet whether OnePlus will now be using ColorOS for its international devices, or stay with OxygenOS.
OnePlus also hopes that this merging and integration would come as a positive feedback for users and its community. The company also assured its users that the company will still operate independently in spite of the integration. Although because Oppo has bigger control, we are not 100% sure if this is still the case.
OnePlus was created in 2013 by Carl Pei and Pete Lau, both of which formerly worked with Oppo’s internals. The two split from Oppo in order to create OnePlus, with the goal of having “flagship killer” products at stake. Today, the company is still part of BBK, but operates independently from its former parent company Oppo.
There is no set date when could this happen, although we predict that it might happen before OnePlus 10 is released.
