Remember when we said that Leica is eyeing other brands? Well, it seems like Sharp is also part of that list.
Today, Sharp unveiled a monstrous camera phone, with the world’s first 1in. camera sensor. And no, this isn’t a midrange phone, it’s a flagship phone named Aquos R6.
The phone has been co-engineered with Leica, which made the 1in. sensor. The bigger the sensor, the more light can enter therefore, increasing the photo and video quality as well because the sensor can now take in more info.
Among other specs the phone has, the Aquos R6 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G processor, 240Hz refresh rate (mind you, this is higher than most flagships and even rivals gaming phones). With the high end specs, large camera and Leica partnership, Sony is obviously going all-in with their smartphone game, and in their hometown, competes with Sony, especially with the camera department.
The phone boasts not just the 1in. sensor but also an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which can read your fingers faster than the blink of an eye. “The fingerprint sensor of AQUOS R6 is equipped with “Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max,” said Sharp in its official notes. “It is also 11 times larger than the conventional ones and the largest size in the world. You can also unlock by touching about. Moreover, the security level has also improved.” they added.
For the display, it’s a 2K display with a resolution of 1260×2730 px. The display’s brightness is also impressive. It has a recorded maximum brightness of 2000nits, which is larger than the iPad Pro’s 1600nits. It also has a contrast ratio of 20,000,000:1.
The battery is modest. It is equipped with a 5000mAh battery with Intelligent Charge 2.0 equipped. The phone has one storage option: 12/128 with UFS 3.1 storage. In addition, it is IPX8 water and dust resistant.
Going back to the camera, Sharp has partnered with Leica to make the large sensor possible. Sharp said that this sensor is also 5x larger than its predecessor and has numerous improved features built-in. This sensor supports low-light autofocus, which is made possible due to a laser-based PDAF. The company also said that it added Leica’s 7-element Summicron, which allows for a high-resolution picture. For the resolutions of the sensors, the main sensor is 20mp while the second sensor is a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor with 12.6mp resolution
Sharp is also the prime innovator of the bezelless screen that we got so used to now. This was known as the Sharp Aquos Crystal, released in 2014, and then Xiaomi refined this concept in their Mi Mix series of phones.
The Aquos R6 is unlikely to come in the Philippines as Sharp has little to no presence in the country in terms of smartphones. Pricing is also yet to be announced. Though, Sharp did say the phone will be released in its home country of Japan and in other key regions.
