Mediatek has unveiled a new budget 5G chipset under its Dimensity lineup, the Dimensity 900. This processor is built on a 6nm process and supports Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, up to 108mp camera and up to FHD+ 120Hz displays.
“Dimensity 900 brings a suite of connectivity, display and 4K HDR visual enhancements to high-tier 5G smartphones and gives brands great design flexibility for their 5G portfolios,” said Dr. JC Hsu, Corporate VP and GM of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “The chipset’s support for 5G and Wi-Fi 6 ensures users get the most of out their devices with super-fast and reliable connectivity.” said Mediatek in a statement.
In Dr. JC Hsu’s statement, the new Dimensity 900 5G chipset should bring 4K HDR visual enhancements to 5G smartphones, as well as high levels of connectivity. This is why the Dimensity 900 5G chipset is equipped with a 5G New Radio (NR) sub 6GHz modem with carrier aggregation and supports up to 120Hz of bandwidth.
The new Dimensity 900 CPU is also equipped with an octa-core CPU (2x 2.4GHz Cortex A-78, 6x 2GHz Cortex A-55) and a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. The chipset supports UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM. The chipset also has a proprietary APU (AI Processing Unit). One thing Mediatek noted about this new processor is that it is power efficient.
