Vivo Launches the Y50s 5G and Y50e in China. Two New Budget Phones Exactly for your Stylish Needs

Stylish, if only that’s what you need, and you don’t need anything else for your phone.

Vivo launched two new budget phones for the Chinese market (and we may even see this hit global too). These are the Vivo Y50s 5G and the Y50e 5G. The two phones share the same chassis but differ in terms of specs and internals. Both of these phones feature a dewdrop notch, which we believed were extinct since at least 2023.

DEWDROP NOTCH IN THE BIG 26

Starting with the Y50s, this phone comes in a very stylish and elegant design mimicking that of aluminum, a signature design language vivo does. Under the hood, you’ll find a 6000mAh battery complemented with 44W fast charging. You’ll also find the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 powering the phone. A budget phone for basic 5G needs, and this is complemented with 6GB RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. Wait… hold on. Does that say 6GB RAM??? Are we feeling the effects of rising RAM prices already?

Anyway, the camera island features two lenses. One of which is the only one that works. The main camera is a 13MP sensor and the front features a 5MP sensor. As you can tell, it’s a phone from 2019 made to cater to 2026 people. At least this has a 3.5mm jack. That’s a rare sight to see in any phone nowadays, even budget ones. The unkillable Mali-G57 MC2 is the main graphics card of the chipset.

Finally, the display used is IPS LCD with 720p resolution. This display has 90Hz refresh rate which is 30hz faster than the iPhone 16e. Imagine that, for significantly cheaper price.

The phone comes in gold, sky blue, or black. We can’t be bothered to translate the colors, sorry. The Y50s 5G starts at CNY 1,799 (~PHP 15.2K) directly converted.

So, what’s this Y50e then? Ah it’s basically the same phone but with even worse specs. How can you go lower than this, you might ask? Well for starters, despite it using the same chipset, the Dimensity 6300, the storage is now down to just 128GB and uses the stupidly slower and outdated eMMC 5.1 soddered-storage system. This phone starts at CNY 1,499 (~PHP 12.6K) directly converted. At that price, you can get the significantly faster and more modern POCO M8.
