Hey look, another budget phone!
Vivo launched a new phone called the Y03. Its main featurette is that you can get it at a smaller price through an installment plan with Smart, the Device Plan 599. But before we get to that, we’ll define what they Y03 is based on its specs. Although, if you want it on an open line, the Y03 is always available online, Vivo’s concept stores, and in authorized resellers nationwide.
The Vivo Y03 is your basic budget phone, although marketed as a gaming de It comes with a MediaTek Helio G85 with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. Don’t worry, it comes with a MicroSD Slot with 1TB total capacity. In terms of cameras, it has a 50MP primary with a 2MP helper, because that never goes away, as well as an 8MP selfie camera housed on a waterdrop notch.
Speaking of notches, the phone has your typical 6.56″ HD+ (1600x720px) IPS LCD screen and 90Hz refresh rate. It looks like we’re seeing budget phones with high refresh rates being the norm, which is always a good thing. Vivo markets the display as a “sunlight display”, meaning the phone can be seen brightly even under the tense sunlight.
Finally, it has a 5000mAh battery charged via USB-C, though only up to 15W of charging. Still faster than 10W and that’s more than what other brands offer at this price range. It does not come with stereo speakers. To compensate, it has that gimmicky 150% audio booster. However, it does have a trick up its sleeve not seen commonly on other phones. Usually, you would normally see an IP54 rating at this range, or none at all. What if we tell you, now you get the flagship-grade IP64 on your budget device? Perfect no, for this rainy weather.
Now about that Smart Plan. It’s called Smart Device Plan 599 Lite. It is Smart’s most affordable plan yet, as it should be since a budget phone is part of it, not a midrange device. Aside from the phone, the package includes 2.5GB data with unlimited calls and texts to all networks, and an extra 25 minutes worth of calls to PLDT landline numbers, if you still have a landline that is. To avail of the plan, all you need to do is to pay a small PHP 600 cashout.
In Smart’s website, there is a 10GB data option as well, if you prefer getting more data out of your plan, all for the same cashout price.
The phone itself, in an open line, is available for PHP 4,999. Do remember getting a phone in installments via a carrier means that the phone will be SIM-locked to that carrier and that interest may apply. Please do visit Smart’s website and read carefully the terms, conditions, and disclaimers before making a purchase. In the case above, with the 10GB open access data, you’ll be paying 100 per month with a downpayment of 1,000. Remember you have to pay the device for over 23 months on this plan, totaling to PHP 2,300, plus the downpayment of PHP 1,000. This accumulates a total of PHP 3,300 if you choose going over the Smart Signature Plan instead of open line. While yes, it seems cheaper (and much more if you choose the initial cashout option), do note you’re SIM-locked to Smart for a set amount of time. Converting to open line during the duration of the plan is a violation of a contract and you may be legally liable.
If you decide to go for the Lite plan, as this article describes, then all you need to do is release an initial cashout of PHP 600. After that, you will be paying PHP 599 monthly.
