The OnePlus 12 and 12R Are Now in the Philippines!

The R series is included here too?!

OnePlus officially launched the successor to the OnePlus 11 and just like last year, there are two variations. Notice how the T series or Pro series are gone? The complementary device this time is the OnePlus 12R, supposedly, a replacement for the renowned T series which we’ve last seen on the OnePlus 10T.

The main distinguishing features of the two is that the 12R lacks the Hasselblad branding, at least from a design standpoint. Also, at first glance, the OnePlus 12 feels like a rehash of the OnePlus 11, complete with its colour and design choices. In some ways, that is true.

Of course, it has some improvements, like the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for example, and a bunch of new camera sensors, now on its fourth generation since the OnePlus 9 Pro.

You’re probably here for the price, so let’s cut to the chase. The OnePlus 12 is seriously more expensive than its predecessor. Now getting the phone will cost you a whopping PHP 63,990 (16/512) vs PHP 45,990 of yesteryear. That’s where the OnePlus 12R fills in the gaps. This phone costs PHP 43,990 (16/256), that is PHP 2,000 cheaper than the OnePlus 11 and feels closer to it as a successor.

ONEPLUS 12

Oddly enough, we didn’t get an invite to the launching of the OnePlus 12, and we were caught by surprise that some content creators were already teasing its arrival in the Philippines as early as the first week of April. That’s fine, we can get some images and footage from OnePlus’ website instead, like what we do in some of our articles.

The OnePlus 12 comes in two colours: Flowy Emerald and Silky Black. The Emerald colour seems to be OnePlus’ staple and will never leave the number series for a period of time. The phone is also made of AG Glass for its back panel and this is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because the phone looks classy, a curse because glass is prone to fingerprint smudges.

The display here is curved, like the OnePlus 11 series. It uses an LTPO AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz PWM Dimming. Not to mention, it has QHD+ (3218x1440px) resolution. This screen is protected with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Obviously, it would have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with 16GB RAM and 512GB ROM. There are three cameras at the back and one employed for the selfie. They are newer sensors that are larger than the ones on the OnePlus 11 and so it is designed to capture more light even at very very low lighting, or none at all. These cameras are tuned by Hasselblad and with their assistance, they can make each photo be vibrant yet remain realistic. The primary camera is a 50MP Sony Lytia LYT-808 primary, the second camera is a 64MP telephoto, an Omnivision OV64B, and the third one is a 48MP Ultrawide, the classic Sony IMX581 also used for the OnePlus 11’s ultrawide. The selfie is a 32MP Sony IMX615.

It has a slight upgrade when it comes to charging rates. From 80W it jumped to 100W. It also uses a slightly larger 5400mAh battery so it should last a little while longer. However, it is not just the battery that should be checked. Optimization plays a huge role in maintaining battery life as well as heat, and heat can kill the battery fast.

Finally, it has an in-display fingerprint scanner, an IP65 protection (same as OnePlus 11), 5G services, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. Every connectivity and security package you’ve come to expect in a flagship. Of course, the USB-C port is here to stay, as well as stereo speakers, Alert Slider, and the IR Blaster which is slowly creeping up and maintaining on many OnePlus devices. Even our Nord 3 has it.

The phone is available in Oppo’s concept stores nationwide as well as Digital Walker, Lazada, and Shopee. Oppo made it so that OnePlus is more accessible to the general public, when it was originally focused on enthusiast, a niche and small market.

ONEPLUS 12R

The 12R. The successor to the ever-popular T series that was once exclusive to Indian users. Previously, it was mostly an Indian-specced T series device, now the brand has streamlined their lineup to make it less confusing for consumers. Xiaomi could never.

The series is a slightly toned down OnePlus 12. The most obvious sign is the lack of the Hasselblad branding at the back. Other signs include the use of the previous-gen flagship chip, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It also uses a typical 50MP Sony IMX890 + 8MP ultrawide + 2MP macro setup. This camera setup is the same one as the OnePlus Nord 3, complete with the same 16MP selfie camera.

It was able to keep the same consistency when it comes to the battery though. Here, it is a 5500mAh battery cell with 100W fast charging. So far, nothing changed here, except with a slight increase in capacity that does not affect its performance much.

It uses the same type of display as the OnePlus 12. This means a QHD+ LTPO4.0 AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate. The phone also has its exclusive color, Cool Blue, which helps it distinguish from its more powerful sibling. Also, the back appears to be made of plastic instead of glass. So in many ways, the 12R is a glorified Nord.

In terms of everything else, it is mostly kept the same, including the in-display fingerprint scanner, IR blaster, and Wi-Fi 7 support. It has a slightly toned down ingress rating of IP64 however.

The phone is available in Shopee with its price currently discounted starting today, April 18, to April 27. Up to PHP 2,200 in first-sale discount vouchers are waiting for interested users. Not only that, during this period, you’d also get yourself a FREE Bluetooth speaker!
