Android just gets more demanding every new release.
Android 13 and its Go variant has just been released. Take note that there are still phones running Android 10 and 11, and those are still new. Manufacturers now have to be more competitive so they don’t play catch-up. They also need to be more supportive of newly-released phones with dated software to ensure maximum security and compatibility for apps.
It was announced just recently that the lighter version of Android 13, called Android 13 Go, now requires phones to have 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Previously, these phones need only half, 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM.
The announcement was made by Android Enterprise Expert John Bayton. He stated that phones with less than this required RAM and storage can no longer offload Google’s services. In addition, older phones with weaker system internals won’t get updated so to prevent the phone from constantly crashing or looping.
Because Android is used by literally every manufacturer aside from Apple, it’s no surprise why it’s so hard to control, or why its requirements kept increasing every year. The same holds true for the actual Android 13.
Phones with less than 2GB RAM shouldn’t exist anymore anyway. I say, good luck to our local manufacturers out there still heavily dependent on 512MB and 1GB RAM.
