ICYMI: Oppo released the Reno8 series in India

One of them comes with the Dimensity 8100-Max, a customized version of the Dimensity 8100

The Reno8 series has expanded. Initially, it was thought to be just a watered-down OnePlus 10 Pro, but the design was different once the official version was released. Reno is Oppo’s luxury midrange line with an emphasis on stunning photography and the Reno8 Pro is no different.

While the design is different and the Reno8 series misses out on the Hasselblad branding, it does have camera sensors identical to the OnePlus 10 Pro.

In China, where the series was first released, the regular, the Pro, and the Pro+ variant. In Europe, there is the added Lite variant, although it’s literally just the Reno 7 Lite under a new name. The Pro+ never made it in India, but the Reno8 and Reno8 Pro did. Fret not, as the 8 Pro in India is just the Pro+ which makes things really confusing.

Anyway, aside from the overcomplicated naming decision, the phone features specs identical to the Pro+ in China, such as a 6.7in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, a Mediatek Dimensity 8100-Max, a customized SoC specifically by Oppo, a 50MP Sony IMX766 camera with 8mp ultrawide and 2mp macro complements, a 32mp Sony IMX706 selfie camera, and a dual-cell 4500mAh battery with 80W fast charging. The phone also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and the MariSilicon X NPU, a chip first seen on the flagship Find X5 Pro that enhances image quality.

It boots with ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12. It comes in Glazed Black and Glazed Green colours.

We’re yet to find out about the release of the Reno8 series in the Philippines. While we may never see the Pro+ Chinese variant global, we can at least expect that a renaming would happen. In India, the phone is priced initially at INR 45,999 (~Php 32.3K) for the 12/256 configuration, the Pro’s only configuration.

Oppo Reno8 5G

The vanilla Reno8 which was released alongside the Pro version follows the Chinese version with some alterations. It features a 6.4in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate, a Mediatek Dimensity 1300 chipset with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 internal storage, an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 4500mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC fast charging, and USB-C port.

The cameras are where all the differences become noticeable. Instead of a macro+depth combination, the global version opted to use a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera with an 8MP ultrawide and 2mp macro camera. Like the 8 Pro, the front camera is the 32MP Sony IMX706.

In India, it starts at INR 29,999 (~Php 21.1K). It boots with Android 12 with ColorOS 12.1 skin on top and comes in Shimmer Black and Shimmer Gold.
