The shortage meant manufacturers had to look elsewhere aside from mainstream ones.
Poco is supposed to launch the C40 budget phone later this month, on 16th June. However, Xiaomi Vietnam decided to do it early anyway. The Poco C40, in all due respects, is another typical budget phone, with one peculiarity: the chipset used.
As expected, it has a 6.7`” HD+ (1650x720px) IPS LCD screen, a 13mp main camera with two 2mp cameras (both the gimmicky depth and macro), and a waterdrop notch holding the 5mp front camera. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Instead of Mediatek, Qualcomm, or even Unisoc, Poco decided to go for a much less-known semiconductor brand called JLQ technologies, based in Shanghai. The chipset of choice is the JR510 manufactured on an 11nm TSMC process and comes with an octa-core structure comprising four 2GHz unspecified performance cores and another four 1.5GHz unspecified efficiency cores. Performance should be similar to that of the Snapdragon 450 or the Helio G35
It has a 6000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. The 4/64 variant starts at VND 3,490,000 (~Php 8K) and comes in Yellow, Green, and Black colours. We expect the phone should launch globally by 16th June, as planned.
