We don’t know when they’re coming back
Apple has recently announced that the iPod would meet its end, and no iPods would be produced in the near future. The last iPod Touches would be sold until supplies last.
“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Today, the spirit of iPod lives on. We’ve integrated an incredible music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV. And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio — there’s no better way to enjoy, discover, and experience music.”
Apple cited that iPhones can now perform the same level of quality of music as much as iPods do. In their blog post, they suggested users to use the new iPhone SE or the new iPhone 13 series to enjoy spatial audio and high-quality music, as well as enjoy benefits from Apple Music.
Steve Jobs created the iPod back in 2001 as a way to compete with the Sony Walkman in a smaller, more compact package. Through his brilliant marketing and the iPod’s small size and the ability to carry hundreds of music on the go, was something revolutionary at the time. It revolutionized how music was sold at the time.
Thank you for the brilliant 20 years, iPod, may you have a place in every audiophiles’ history.
