The Redmi K40S has launched in China! It’s a gaming phone with some serious savings on the line.

This is also the so-called “Poco F4” that’s launching globally.

In China, Xiaomi launched yet another exciting event. Yes, we will always be excited for the K series from Redmi as it is a series with some tough-as-balls specs with some surprisingly high savings and practicality. Three were launched: The K40s, K50, and K50 Pro. In this article, we’ll be discussing first the Redmi K40S. The K50 series are for another time.

All three phones have a nearly identical look in terms of their design. The hardware used is where the differences matter. The display of the K40S is not compromised heavily, as it is a 6.67in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) Samsung E4 AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It has a fairly bright 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio which is 5x more than the iPad Pro!

The phone uses the ever-reliable, yet also ageing Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip. We’re not sure why Xiaomi did not proceed with the Snapdragon 888 for this one. It may be reserved for the higher K50 series. This is paired with 6, 8, or 12GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB UFS 2.1 internal storage.

For the cameras, the main camera is a 48mp Sony camera with OIS, most likely the ageing Sony IMX586 (though still performs top-notch even to more advanced midranger cameras). This is complemented with the usual 8mp ultrawide and 2mp macro useless sensor. The front camera is 20mp on a dot notch.

The battery is 4500mAh and comes with 67W fast charging. The phone also has the IR Blaster so you can control your appliances directly through the phone. It is an effective method in replacing old remote controllers. For audio, the phone is equipped with Dolby Atmos for a rich and immersive sound experience. It runs MIUI 13 based on Android 12.

It has four colours: Iridescent, Black, Green, and Silver. The K series is never launched globally as it is but they are renamed to cater to global audiences. In this case, the Poco F4 as rumoured.

SPECS:

As mentioned, the phone is only available in China, although there are rumors that the phone will launch globally as the Poco F4.
