Why aren’t gaming tablets a thing before? Is it optimization issues?
If you are familiar with the name “Legion Y700”, that’s because that name and model exists as a laptop for years now. However, that’s not what we’re going to talk about. Here, we will discuss the tablet version, which is completely unrelated to the laptop.
The Legion Y700 tab is a gaming tablet, and one of the first in the market. There are gaming phones, but gaming tablets are just unheard of, until now. We can speculate that it was caused by the fact that Android tablets aren’t really optimized, and they have a rough start and journey, thus preventing their progress. It wasn’t until the start of the pandemic that tablets became relevant again, as people stayed home for work and school projects.
The tablet has an 8.8in. 2K (2560x1600px.) LCD with 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, Dolby Vision, DC Dimming, and HDR10. it also has 500nits typical brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The tablet was developed from the larger Lenovo Pad Pro but with a few compromises. In comparison, the Lenovo Pad Pro has an 11.5in. AMOLED panel.
Inside the tablet is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, a slightly downgraded version of the SD888 but is the most popular choice for tablets due to it being optimised for use on them. The chipset is paired with either 8 or 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and either 128 or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. There is a pair of JBL speakers located at the side of the tab, so you can guarantee that the game you play becomes highly immersive and loud. In addition to the speakers, there’s also a MicroSD card slot and 3.5mm jack.
There are two cameras for the tablet. The rear camera is 13mp while the front is 8mp. It’s a tablet, and cameras aren’t the highest priority for them. The tablet is capable of using face unlock as well. It runs on ZUI 13 based on Android 12
The tablet has a pretty average-sized battery with a capacity of 6550mAh. This is partially compensated by the 45W charging that it supports. According to Lenovo, the tablet can charge from 0-100% in just 45 minutes. It can also handle 6H worth of gameplay, which isn’t a lot to be honest.
Like the Legion Y90, the phone is now available for pre-orders in China and regular sales will start on 10th March. The 8/128 configuration is priced at CNY 2699 (~Php 22.3K) and the 12/256 configuration is priced at CNY 2999 (~Php 24.8K)
