It seems like the Pova series is slowly becoming their experimental series. Tecno is the first of the three Transsion group of companies to implement 5G on their devices.
The Pova series is Tecno’s “big battery” series that’s also geared towards gamers. Their previous handset, the Pova 2 has a massively large 7000mAh battery at the helm. It’s larger than most phones of a similar calibre, even larger than flagships!
Now the company is venturing and joining other OEMs in the 5G smartphone race. Sure it may be a little late considering we’re three days to 2022, but as the saying goes it’s better late than never. Their first 5G handset, the Pova 5G, has specs that’s similar to higher-priced 5G phones but this one is priced quite competitively. Oh, it has a Dimensity 900 5G processor at the ready.
Starting with the screen. It’s a large 6.9in. FHD+ IPS LCD with 120Hz refresh rate. It’s quite familiar to Pova 2 users. It has a dot notch (or others call it “dotch”) that houses the 16mp front camera with flash.
And speaking of cameras, there is a triple camera setup comprising of a 50mp main camera, a 2mp AI lens (that’s just the depth sensor but don’t worry about it), and another 2mp camera that’s unspecified. It has a quad flash at the back too.
As mentioned earlier, this phone is powered by a Dimensity 900 5G processor. Props to Tecno for not using the Dimensity 700 as others would use just the most basic 5G processor just so their phone could qualify as a 5G phone. We’re not saying the Dimensity 700 is awful though, it is definitely jam-packed with good specs that would make other similarly priced budget phones shiver. This Dimensity 900 processor is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Oh, it’s LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage which are unheard of outside of flagships.
The battery is rated at 6000mAh and comes with a hefty 18W fast charging tech. This battery isn’t as large as the Pova 2 but it will do and should last for a day of usage.
The phone also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm jack, HiOS 8 based on Android 11, and Tecno’s proprietary “Panther” game engine that improves gameplay experience.
Pricing is yet to be announced. We will update as soon as an official release date in the Philippines is announced.
