Along with a suitcase design created by Naoto Fukusawa
Realme has previously launched the Realme GT with Snapdragon 888 and with a midrange price. The Realme GT is what is known as “flagship killers” in that they have more features than a typical midrange but with a flagship processor, at a midranger price.
There is also the Master Edition which is completely a midrange. It makes up for it by its leather suitcase design by Naoto Fukusawa, a world-leading designer who has also worked for other companies like Muji. Naoto also previously designed for Realme, in particular, their Realme X2 Onion and Garlic leather colours
The reason Realme went for this suitcase design because it reminds the phone of travel. During the pandemic, people were restricted in travelling everywhere and Realme claims that this design would remind them that travelling doesn’t mean going in places, but rather the memories it takes from that travel. The design actually won an award from iF.
With that philosophy out of the way, let’s look at the specs.
The specs are nearly identical to the Realme GT except it trades the flagship SD888 processor for a midrange Snapdragon 778G and it introduces a new photography mode called “street photography”. This photography mode uses computational photography that determines the perfect contrast, colour balance and atmosphere of the image being taken. Street Photography often employs a moody theme, presenting dark colours or monochrome ones.
The display is similar to the Realme GT. It uses a 6.43in. FHD+ AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. Inside it comes with an optical fingerprint scanner and 360Hz touch sampling rate and 1000 nits of peak brightness.
The camera system is just the usual: a 64mp Sony camera, an 8mp ultrawide and a 2mp macro lens. As stated, this also comes with the Street Photography mode which is a first on a smartphone. The main 64mp has the ability to do 4K video.
While the phone does come with 6 or 8GB RAM, you can expand this virtually using a system Realme calls Dynamic RAM. This uses your internal storage and converts it into Virtual RAM. You can have up to 5GB of Virtual RAM inside the Realme GT Master Edition. And just like the Realme GT, this also has Vapour Chamber Cooling System that keeps the phone cool whenever you’re using it on a heavy workload.
The phone is now available for sale in India and will have a discounted price on Flipkart. Realme says the 6/128 variant will come later, but the 8/128 and 8/256 are available on 26th August. Below are price conversions
Default Price:
- 6/128: INR 25,999 (~Php 17.7K)
- 8/128: INR 27,999 (~Php 19K)
- 8/256: INR 29,999 (~Php 20.4K)
Debut Price:
- 6/128: INR 18,199 (~Php 12.4K)
- 8/128: INR 19,599 (~Php 13.3K)
- 8/256: INR 20,999 (~Php 14.3K)
Like the Realme GT, the Master Edition is not available in the Philippines yet. It comes in three colours: Luna White, Voyager Gray and Cosmos Black. We do hope that these phones come to the Philippines considering the Poco X3 and F3 series are available here. We do need alternatives from time to time. Surely, the phones are much cheaper when it does officially arrive in the country
