Soon, we may be able to see UNISOC chipsets hit mainstream phones.

The chipset maker has partnered up with major smartphone makers including Realme and Motorola in India.

UNISOC Tanggula series of 5G chipsets announced last April

In the smartphone world, there are two major chipset manufacturers: Mediatek and Qualcomm. Although manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei have their own foundries, they are only mostly seen on their own branded handsets.

UNISOC is now going to be the third player in the smartphone market race. UNISOC made chipsets for smartphones before but they haven’t seen the limelight as Mediatek and Qualcomm did. If you didn’t know, UNISOC was formerly known as Spreadtrum and they are known for providing budget handsets their chipsets.

Last April, the company announced the Tanggula series of 5G chipsets. This is a sign that the company is ready to go back making chipsets for mobile phones, and this time, even more competitive. At least now, we can avoid the duopoly that is Mediatek and Qualcomm. Competition is always healthy so that companies constantly improve their products and balance prices.

The company announced today that their making a major appearance in India, as they partnered up with Realme, Motorola and India’s own Micromax. Although, in the Philippines, UNISOC has already appeared in budget smartphones, like the SC9863A found in the Cherry Mobile Aqua S9.

According to GizmoChina, the company has already partnered up with companies like Honor, Hisense and Teclast and has already made its mark from over 128 countries in the world.

In particular, the company is bringing their T610 series of chipsets to those three manufacturers. One example of a phone with this chipset is the Micromax In 2b

The Micromax In 2B

The Micromax In 2b is a budget smartphone powered by a nifty UNISOC T610 processor. This is a 12nm-based octa-core processor that is powered by six Cortex A-55 @1.8GHz efficiency cores and two Cortex A-75 @1.8GHz performance cores. It uses a Mali G52 MP2 as its GPU. Inside the phone comes 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. This is expandable via microSD card.

The Micromax In 2b uses an HD+ IPS LCD coupled with a dual 13mp + 2mp main and depth sensor as its main camera and a single 5mp dewdrop notch for its selfie camera. It charges via USB-C and has 5000mAh of battery capacity with the usual sluggish 10W charging.

The UNISOC T610, to give you an idea on how it performs on paper, should be similar to that of Helio G80 or the Snapdragon 662 from Mediatek and Qualcomm respectively.
