ZTE launched yet again another flagship, the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G. Also, despite the sanctions imposed by the US, the phone will be available there.
The ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G has triple 64mp sensors which they call “trinity”, a wide, ultrawide and a standard. An added bonus is its 8mp periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, which means you can zoom 50x without losing quality. The 64mp sensor is a Sony IMX686 CMOS sensor.
The phone supports 8K @30fps video recording as well as OIS with laser autofocus. Videos are going to be steady even when walking. For the front cam, there is your usual 16mp sensor.
As always, the phone will come with a Snapdragon 888 5G processor with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The screen is a 6.67in. FHD, AMOLED with 144Hz refresh rate. The phone supports 10-bit colour and HDR10+
Unlike the previous Axon 20 series which nominally used midrange processors, the Axon 30 series have a phone with a flagship processor outright. (To be fair, The Axon 20 series never had an “Ultra” version anyway, although the series have the EXTREME, but is still midrange)
For the battery, it has a capacity of 4600mAh, not the largest, as some budget phones have even a massive 6000mAh battery inside. However, the 4600mAh battery can last you more than a day, also, unlike most budget phones with a large battery, this one has a 66W fast charging, typical for a flagship. ZTE did not announce wireless charging support for the phone.
For the OS, you have ZTE’s MyOS skin on top with Android 11.
It comes in three colours: White, Black and Mint, plus a limited edition Tan Vegan leather edition.
The ZTE Axon 30 Ultra comes in three storage options, and below are their prices. Please take note that these are directly converted:
- 8/256: 4698 CNY (~34.8K php)
- 12/256: 4998 CNY (~37.1K php)
- 16/1TB: 6666 CNY (~49.4K php)
As you can see, the phone’s highest configuration has 1TB of storage! That’s larger than most flagships today and is typical for most PCs today.
ZTE said that the phone will be available in China this Monday, 19th April. The phone will be available internationally “soon”. ZTE had made no particular announcement.
ZTE Axon 30 Pro
This was the second phone rumoured to have an in-display camera since the Axon 20 5G, and the first flagship to have that feature. Unfortunately, the end result is disappointing, as it turns out to be just a filler, cheaper model of the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra. Who knows? ZTE may have something bigger under its sleeves.
The main difference between this and the Ultra boils down to its cameras. The cameras are nerfed from that of the Ultra, with only having dual 64mp: wide and ultrawide, and the auxiliary 5mp macro and 2mp depth sensors. The battery is also smaller, at 4200mAh with a smaller 55W fast charging capacity. Still, the charging is fast and the battery should last you a day or more. What’s more, the screen, while retaining the 6.67in. OLED panel, it only has 120Hz refresh rate.
Here are the prices of the ZTE Axon 30 Pro:
- 6/128: 2998 CNY (~22.2K php)
- 8/128: 3298 CNY (~24.5K php)
- 8/256: 3598 CNY (~26.7K php)
ZTE said that the phone will be released alongside the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G, and the international markets would be announced soon.
