A render shown on Voice.com showed what the Google Pixel 5A might look like. There were rumours stating that Google is cancelling the 5A, but Google debunked the rumors by countering that the Pixel 5A will launch later this year, possibly Q2. The rumor came in because of the chipset shortages that was impacted due to the pandemic resulting in factories temporarily closing.
According to the render, the phone is built out of plastic, with a design matching that of the Pixel 4A. It’s also slightly taller than the Pixel 5, with a height of 2.3mm. The Pixel 5A also has a 6.2in. OLED display with a large chin and narrow bezels.
The Pixel series is not your typical midranger, where there are three or four cameras at the back. The Pixel camera, which is also being ported to other phones unofficially, is the icing on the cake and the main selling point of the phone, with excellent computational photography. The Pixel 5A is rumoured to come with a dual camera setup, most likely an ultrawide and a wide camera, because that’s what the Pixel 4A 5G came with. There is also a punch-hole selfie camera.
There is no announced chipset, however we can safely say that it might come with the planned GS101 “Whitechapel” chipset, as Google collaborated with Samsung to make their own in-house SoC. However, take this with a grain of salt, as this was the chipset planned for the Pixel 6, not for the Pixel 5. If ever it uses a Qualcomm chipset, it’s more likely the company will use Snapdragon 765G or Snapdragon 780G
According to Google, it will be released officially in the US and Japan. There is no word yet for availability in other markets.
