And PHP 16,999 for the 5G variant. Nevertheless, they are the same apart from the chipset.
A month after the launch of the Vivo V50, the V50 Lite came about, and right on time too because other brands are already releasing a slightly watered down version of their luxury midrange phone. The V50 Lite competes fairly against devices such as the Honor X9c and the Redmi Note 13 Pro.
The Vivo V50 Lite actually comes in two separate versions, a flavor if you will. The cheapest option has the Snapdragon 685 while the more expensive version with 5G uses Dimensity 6300. These two phones are identical in terms of other components, so the only compromise you get is that the PHP 13,999 variant is 4G-only.
While these chipsets are appropriate for this kind of phone, it’s not exactly meant for hardcore gamers either. Phones from Tecno, Infinix, and Xiaomi offer stronger chipsets at the same price range. The Vivo V50 Lite is designed for the hardcore Instagrammer, not those who want to roll for Cantarella.
The Vivo V50 flaunts the ZEISS branding and of course, the aura ring light that has been present since the Vivo V27. It’s here to stay for a while. So, what makes the Vivo V50 Lite the “lesser” version?
Like the V40 Lite that came before it, it uses the trusty 50MP Sony IMX882 camera as its main shooter and an 8MP ultrawide to support it. Guess what’s absent? That’s right, the 2MP cameras. About damn time too. We don’t need useless cameras embedded on a phone. For those who argue “aesthetics”, it’s clear that manufacturers can craft a beautiful phone even without it. Back to basics it is.
Those who love selfies aren’t left out either. It uses a 32MP camera. Yes, the exact same one used four years ago. If it’s not broke, do not fix it, as they say.
In terms of design, Vivo, as always, makes the phone appear premium and stylish. It comes in Fantasy Purple, Titanium Gold, and Black. The purple coloured appears to be textured, mimicking ceramic.
Another one of its flaunted features is the so-called “BlueVolt” battery. Another term to familiarize about, huh. To an average consumer, the name “Bluevolt” won’t really matter so as long the phone functions and lasts long as advertised. And speaking of long-lasting batteries, the Vivo V50 Lite has a 6500mAh battery coupled with 90W fast charging. The trend of rising battery capacities at the same general density continues. Oh, let’s not forget the trendy IP69 water/dust resistance, allowing the Vivo V50 Lite to survive most harsh conditions apart from salt and seawater, as well as dust. However, as we discussed before, certifications are very expensive hence why when companies add it to a budget phone, every other component is compromised.
The Vivo V50 Lite features a display typical for a phone of this price range. Crazy how we went from using IPS LCD on sub-15K phones to OLED in just a few years. What you could previously see in flagships only now is in the hands of your average consumer. This display is fairly bright at 1800nits. It measures 6.77″ diagonally and comes with 120Hz refresh rate.
Can’t have a tech product these days without heavily mentioning AI and its supposed illusion of being truly useful. The term “AI” and “artificial intelligence” have lost meaning ever since all big tech companies began abusing the term. Previously, “AI” is used to refer to machine learning algorithms that make life better. Now, it just refers to anything generative. For the Vivo V50 Lite, it boasts two things, AI Erase, which erases nuisances in images, and AI Photo enhance, which turns your genuine-looking shot to a slop.
The phone is available at your local Vivo concept store nationwide and Vivo’s authorized third-party retailers. Not only that, it is also available online via TikTok, Lazada, and Shopee. Grab it now for just PHP 13,999 for the 4G variant (with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM), and PHP 16,999 for the 5G variant (8/256). The phone goes for much higher, at PHP 19,999 for the 12/512 variant.
