Vivo’s New Budget Phone Has 1000nits Peak Brightness

It’s called the Y28 and the name is just as exciting as it sounds.

Vivo’s new budget phone, the Y28, has launched officially. The main key here is the display. It uses an IPS LCD screen with 1000nits brightness and 90Hz refresh rate. Really, huh? Don’t worry, once we have the unit in our possession, we will try to prove that by putting it out on the sun. This brightness level is the most ideal for users always out in direct sunlight, which means it is great for our hardworking Grab, Foodpanda, and Angkas riders.

The Vivo Y28 screen has the so-called “Eye Protection” screen. This can be activated by turning on the “eye protection” mode which reduces blue light, reducing strain on the eyes. This screen is certified by TUV Rheinland for “Low Blue Light”. The display though, is not FullHD, so there might be some oversharpening with regards to text, and pixelation in games.

Aside from the display, what else does the Y28 offer? The phone has a MediaTek Helio G85 inside. Which, in today’s standards, is considered entry level. While it could run some mainstream games, such as Honor of Kings or Mobile Legends just fine, don’t expect anything marvelous out of it. It’s still decent enough for our dear riders though, which are the main users of this kind of device. The phone is smooth enough for them thanks to its 90Hz refresh rate and 8GB RAM. Choose between 128 or 256GB storage, though we would go for the latter since 128GB is not enough for anyone these days. Yes, even the casual ones.

As for the cameras. There are practically only two cameras. The back features a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor while the front is 8MP. Standard affair for a budget phone. Since you’ll be using this phone outside most of the time, you would expect it to have a large battery. Thankfully, Vivo thought of this well. The Y28 has a 6000mAh battery with the standard 44W fast charging, making this another reason why riders should choose this phone.

In case you run out of storage, the phone has a 1TB MicroSD Slot. In terms of connectivity, you get 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.0. It comes in two colours. The unique Gleaming Orange and the eye-catching Agate Green. The phone is priced at PHP 7,999 (8/128) and PHP 9,699 for 8/256. If you buy it during the 8.8 period, you can even get the phone for an even smaller price! You can do it again next month if you decide to miss this one out.

If you find the phone listed as coming with “16GB RAM”, don’t take it as gospel. The phone only has 8GB RAM, the other 8GB is virtual.
