There are leaks and rumors of such a device with Android with a similar-looking design as old Nokia Lumias.
According to recent leaks from nokiamob.net and HMD tipster @smashx_60 on Twitter (now X), HMD is planning to release a set of smartphones, on their own branding, but with a Lumia-like design. These phones include the Skyline, Atlas, and Ridge. These three sound something like a fake tipster made up but they eventually might become real. Even the renders look convincing.
Nokia has always been an enigma and a niche brand since their downfall in 2007. In 2016, thanks to new management and ownership, the brand was able to come back up and become popular again in European countries and is one of the only brands that are not Chinese to still sell smartphones. However, the brand has not seen long-term success in the Philippines, and many of their phones are sold questionably, with the same questionable specs and design to boot.
It seems like HMD is attempting a second revamp. Now, instead of using Nokia branding which apparently barely worked out, the company is instead making phones on its own brand. Still, many of its phones are inspired from Nokia-based designs, which also includes the classic Lumias, back when it was owned by Microsoft.
HMD Skyline
The highest-end of the three, the Skyline, features a boxy design with multiple colour options, like the good ol’ Lumias. However, we’re concerned that this might come at a compromise. Instead of using the premium metal back we’re so used to, they might opt with polystyrene plastic to keep costs low and to easily mold the backs into multiple colours. So, in a nutshell, the Skyline is HMD’s iPhone 5c.
Currently, there are four colours seen in the leaks. These are pink, gold, green, and cyan. There are no official names yet for these. Also, according to the specs leaked, the phone might feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset as well as a 120Hz PureDisplay FullHD+ AMOLED. Leaks also mention of a 108MP Primary camera, an 8MP Ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie.
Finally, it will boot with fresh Android 14 out of the box, as it is HMD’s specialty. There is going to be a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging if the leaks are accurate.
HMD Atlas
The HMD Atlas (not the final name) will feature an IPS LCD screen with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, a chipset that’s rarely seen in any budget smartphone due to its price. It appears to be the middle child of the three rumored smartphones. The cameras are fairly standard. There is a 48MP Primary and 5MP ultrawide, as well as 16MP selfie. As for battery, it will feature a 5,500mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0, allowing for a flexible charging state when using a compatible charging cable and brick.
HMD Ridge:
The Ridge (or in the image above “Ridge Deluxe Edition”) is the “budget-oriented” type. Though, its performance is not too far off if the specs are correct. See, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ inside it is just as good as the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. Given that it is older, it will depreciate faster though. It features a 50MP+2MP camera setup alongside an 8MP selfie, a 6.64″ FullHD+ IPS LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate, and 5000mAh battery with no word yet about charging capabilities.
Do note that these phones might still change, including their names, specs, and even design. Given that the tipster is reliable enough, this might be the final design. We just have to wait and see.
