MWC: Tecno Reveals the POVA 6 Pro 5G With a Fresh New Design!

The new design looks slick!

Mobile World Congress. An event where almost every manufacturer boasts their technological prowess. It’s like a huge arms race going on here and it’s a pretty exciting event. It happens every year at Barcelona, Spain and there are a lot of things to cover. So many that we couldn’t count. Which is why we’re holding off our reviews until the event concludes.

Also, aside from that, there’s always that one new kid at the block. Transsion, for the first time, has joined MWC so they really are in the big leagues now. Their flagship brand Tecno has a lot of things to offer, including a robot dog that can be friends with Xiaomi’s iteration, or complete rivals.

However, we’re not here to talk about some artificial dog, no, instead we’re going to discuss the POVA 6 Pro. We heard from our creator pals and Tecno they will launch this device first in the Philippines! Truly we are honored.

The POVA 6 Pro 5G is a huge improvement from the POVA 5 Pro which is a repeat of the POVA 4 Pro. It now uses an AMOLED screen with the same 120Hz refresh rate. Like the rest of the series, it features a geometrically aggressive design so it gives a “gaming” feel. You will find a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 inside this phone, or in other words, the Dimensity 810. Choose from 8 or 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Speaking of design, the other reason for this geometric look is for users to take advantage of the fancy light show which in hindsight, is nothing unique. The effects are used for calls, notifications, music, charging, and photo timers. It also has that dynamic island-like notification bar like almost every other Android phone now.

It has a pretty large battery, a feature that’s quite unique to the POVA series. The series had phones with even 7000mAh battery with bloating its size so the cell must be divided. In the case of the POVA 6 Pro, there is a 6000mAh battery cell inside alongside 70W fast wired charging. Also, for the first time, Tecno is bringing an IR Blaster to one of their phone lineups.

There are three cameras, though only two are truly functional. The main camera is a 108MP sensor and the front is a 32MP camera placed as a punch hole on the screen. The other “camera” is a 2MP macro. There’s also an “AI cam” mentioned but that’s just a fancy way of saying “depth helper”. So really, count it, three or four, but only two actually works, and only one at the back.

The phone despite its perceived affordable price tag, has an in-display fingerprint scanner. You’ll also get, aside from 5G of course, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and Stereo Speakers with Hi-Res Audio! There’s a headphone jack still so that’s good. Wired headphones generally sound better than even more expensive wireless ones. It is also IP53-rated so it could withstand some splashes of water, dust, and rain particles.

There is no price yet but one day, we’ll hear from Tecno Philippines!
