And… the same waterdrop design and questionable specs:price ratio.
Let’s get this clear. We love Oppo, as much as we poke fun of them all the time. They are the first company that truly believes in us and has continue supporting and inviting us to certain events. Of course, the company is not flawless. Our review of the A18 is pretty critical, but we still tried to have some good points around it. We’re good, alright?
With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s see what the Oppo A59 5G, launched in India, has to offer.
As with many of Oppo’s smartphones, the phone itself looks luxurious and premium, even though it uses plastic for the frame. That’s the magic only creatives, not AI, can do. Its overall design feels similar to realme which is not a surprise since both Oppo and realme are owned by BBK Electronics. You get two colours here which are Silk Gold and Starry Black.
The display is sadly only a 6.56″ HD+ (1612x720px) 90Hz IPS LCD. It is as basic as you can get. The phone is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 (aka Dimensity 700) chipset with 4GB RAM (in 2024 even) and 128GB ROM. Thankfully, these are expandable. Though virtual RAM honestly feels like a gimmick, unlike MicroSD Card slots.
There is a “dual” camera setup. We say that because it consists of a 13MP primary and a 2MP depth helper. Nothing special to see here. The front features a basic 8MP selfie camera for video calls and conferences (with COVID out, do people still use Zoom as frequently)?
As a standard, the A59 5G comes with a 5000mAh battery and 33W SuperVOOC fast charging, the minium rate Oppo can provide. It has a side-mounted fingerprint reader and boots up with ColorOS 13 based on Android 13
It has not launched yet in the Philippines but with the A58 being official, it would be soon before the Oppo A59 does launch here. To give you an idea of its price, when you check out via Flipkart, the phone costs INR 14,999 (~PHP 10.1K) which is a little too expensive given the specs but who knows? They might have improved the software significantly.
