This phone is now IP68 certified! Now you can take pictures of underwater treasures for up to 30 minutes.
Vivo announced the V27 just a few months ago. Its main unique feature is the aura ring light which is an improvement over your typical LED flash and is supposed to make your portrait effects look beautiful and glamorous. The Vivo V29 continues on with that fame. The phone is a sidegrade because there are only minor specs changes to its predecessor and does not offer anything truly unique.
The V series is now positioned in the same segment as the Oppo Reno series and over time, its price become increasingly more expensive. The series also serves as Vivo’s counterpart to the Reno.
Now, back to the V29, it uses the same identical curved AMOLED as the V27. That is a 6.78″ FullHD+ (2800x1260px) screen with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and a 55-degree curvature. The display here is 36% brighter than the V27.
Instead of a MediaTek chipset, Vivo opted for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset instead. It comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, plus Virtual RAM. The microSD Card Slot is absent. Moreover, the phone retained the 80W fast charging seen with the V27. It is equipped with a 4600mAh battery.
Of course, there is an in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, USB-C port, and 5G connectivity. For the first time in the series, the phone has E-SIM support so now you don’t need to make room for an additional SIM Card.
Now for the best part: the camera system! There is a 50MP Sony IMX890 Primary Camera, an 8MP ultrawide, and sadly, a 2MP depth sensor. We’re hoping Vivo would have just followed the footsteps of the Reno10 Series instead since the cameras on that phone are all usable, even the front camera.
Speaking of. The Vivo V29 uses a 50MP selfie camera, taken from the Vivo V27. Not much changes to see here but you should start clearing up and cleaning your face because phones nowadays can realistically see your pimples and pores.
One major advantage this phone has over the Vivo V27 is the IP68 water/dust resistance so you too can make underwater selfies (not at the sea, though) whenever you and your friends/family members strive to take a vacation. Vivo noted in their press release that damage due to liquid ingress is not covered by the warranty. The phone, and every other phone with an IP68 rating, are not waterproof. They will also depreciate faster if you constantly dunk them in water.
It comes in Peak Blue and Noble Black with a colour spectrum coating. This means that the back colour changes whenever light hits it at a specific angle. The Vivo V27 series also has this design feature and this has been retained for the Vivo V29.
There’s no word yet for a Philippine release date though.
