Canva introduces new AI tools to increase productivity and creativity

We’re in an era where AI is dominating, and that could be a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it.

CEO Melanie Perkins has announced that Canva is introducing “a whole new range of features, focused on empowering brands to scale their creative outputs”. These features eventually became a compilation of AI tools under the ‘Magic’ brand, including ‘Magic Design‘, which allows for creative personalized templates, ‘Magic Presentation‘ which could create presentations from a prompt, and ‘Magic Write‘, a copywriting tool.

There are other AI tools as well, including ‘Magic Translate‘, ‘Magic Edit’, and ‘Magic Eraser‘. All these tools will be AI-powered and are designed to make your creative presentation more convenient and easier to use. For example, Magic Eraser can help you erase background images easily. Magic Edit easily replaces an image you have selected.

According to Perkins, Canva has been working in developing AI tools since 2019 and is now ready to release it to the world. The development was made in collaboration with Austrian startup Kaleido AI which the company acquired a year later. To make Canva’s in-house AI system, the company used fundamental models set by OpenAI (developer of many AI programs like ChatGPT) and Stable Diffusion.

These AI tools will remove doing mundane repetitive tasks that graphic designers encounter, such as constantly swapping logos and make it easier for companies to have their own pre-selected fonts, colours, imagery, and other creative controls.

“As technology continues to advance, we are reimagining the design process by making it even easier to take what is in your head, get it onto a page, and out into the world, faster than ever before,” she said.

She also claimed that Canva’s innovation has grew significantly despite its scale and expectations from a global userbase. “We spent the first 10 years building the platform, and now we’re really excited about spending the next 10 years building the magic,” she said. “I think it’s really important just to focus on our own race, and focus on delighting our community. If we do that, we’ll be alright.”
