Telco giant PLDT is continuing its dedicated green and sustainability efforts by converting some of its largest facilities to using renewable energy.
“We are set to power 20 PLDT and Smart facilities nationwide with renewable energy – true to our commitment to practice,” PLDT and Smart Communications Inc. president and CEO Alfredo Panlilio said in a Facebook post.
The company’s biggest business center in Cebu now has solar panels installed. Each of these 200 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels has 450W of power which the company claims can complement power sources produced commercially. Panlilio said that this solar panel system has a total capacity of 21.455kWh per annum capacity and is equivalent to saving 152 tons of greenhouse gas emissions plus planting over 15,600 trees.
Last year, PLDT and Meralco collaborated to promote responsible energy use and reduce carbon emissions. The two later signed an agreement alongside Spectrum Inc for eco-friendly solutions and developments. Under the agreement, Spectrum Inc will construct a series of solar panels with a capacity of 483.9kW-p (kiloWatt-peak) in five PLDT business centers in Visayas. Cebu is just the starting point.
In addition, PLDT will replace their old vehicles with electric ones. These vehicles would be used by selected service personnel which includes postpaid installation and repair around Metro Manila. This initiative is part of the company’s Green Fleet program.
The company meets the criteria for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG)
