Samsung may finally give up the underpowered Exynos on the S series, starting with the Galaxy S23

We don’t even know why they bother anymore. At least they tried.

Samsung usually manufactures two types of phones for their Galaxy S lines and sell them to different countries. There is the Exynos variant and the more powerful Qualcomm variant. Despite the two obviously being flagships, the Exynos version of the Galaxy S series disappointingly underperforms in comparison to the Snapdragon phone, this is even with AMD’s collaboration. From here, we’re believing Samsung has given up on the Exynos-powered Samsung Galaxy S phones.

Analyst Ming-chi Kuo said that starting with the Galaxy S23 series, the phones would only ship with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. This makes sense as the Exynos series struggles to compete with the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series and even more so with next-generation Snapdragon chips. This is caused by Samsung’s poor optimization in both software and hardware, as well as their fabrication of chipsets. If you could recall, the SD8G1 performed poorly against the newer SD8+G1 chip due to the former being manufactured by Samsung rather than TSMC.

Samsung is not fully confident in the performance of its next-gen flagship Exynos chip, the Exynos 2300 and so, this chipset may only be used on lower-end phones.

We’ll have to wait for Samsung’s confirmation though as this is just an analysis based on the disappointing performance of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. After all, that phone has just been released. We don’t want to make it look old.
