With how confusing Xiaomi’s lineup is, you might need to forget their phones ever had names at all. It’s just phone after phone at this point.
So, in Xiaomi’s lineup, there’s the POCO M4 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11s 5G, Redmi Note 11T, and now, the POCO M4 5G. That’s quite redundant but honestly, this is just Xiaomi’s marketing tactics at work. Let’s dive in.
We can’t help but feel the phone feels out of place for something POCO designed. To us, it feels like someone making a poor render about how the POCO M4 5G would look like. You know, those renders that are heavily exaggerated? Kinda like how PricePony designs renders? It does not help that the POCO M4 5G website feels so amateur.
Anyway enough of how the entire phone feels so rushed just so it can be released. The display is a 6.58in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD with 90Hz refresh rate protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that resists scratches more than regular glass. It has an outdated waterdrop cutout.
It runs on a Mediatek Dimensity 700 chip, a downgrade from the Pro’s Dimensity 810 chipset. Makes sense since this is released as a basic 5G phone. It has a MicroSD card slot (up to 512GB) and is paired with 4 or 6GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB internal storage.
The cameras appear large. That’s because there’s only two. Probably for the best since the 2mp macro and depth are not really that useful and feel there only for the aesthetics. The main camera is a 50mp main camera and a 2mp depth sensor. Well, that just retracts our statement about how the macro and depth cameras are useless. They could have just used the 50mp main camera and the differences are slim. The front camera is 8mp
The rear of the phone has a unique “hypnotic swirl” design that made it appear as if the phone was taken on a photo captured on another camera and then slapped on the website. Honestly, we thought it’s a design error and there’s anti-banding present, but really, that’s just how the design looks.
There is a 5000mAh battery with 18W charging. The charger it comes with though has a power output of 22.5W. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Hi-Res Audio, and 3.5mm jack. Yadda yadda yadda, you probably know this part already, it’s the basics. It also has an IP52 rating so it is somewhat resistant to splashes and highly resistant to dust.
There’s no word yet regarding its arrival here in the Philippines, but if it does, we expect it to be affordable as it will run up to contenders like the Realme 8 5G, Redmi Note 10 5G, TCL 20R 5G, and the Cherry Mobile Aqua S10 Pro 5G. Since the phone is a sidegrade of the Poco M3 Pro (maybe even a downgrade thanks to the display cutout), there are high chances of it coming here.
