This chipset is part of Mediatek’s Pentonic series
Mediatek has recently announced their first chipset which has support for Dolby Vision IQ on their Pentonic series of TV chipsets. These chipsets support both 4K and 8K resolutions on smart TVs. Another good thing about this support is that manufacturers will now be able to leverage Dolby Vision features that are designed for gaming, among other things. This exciting collaboration with Mediatek and Dolby will be available starting in 2H 2022 for TV OEMs to adopt.
Going back to the PRECISION DETAIL feature, this technology is a further expansion of Dolby Vision. As stated in the title, this will make your films and pictures presented on your TV to be even brighter and sharper and reveals more details even in the darkest spots. With the added texture and depth, 4K and 8K resolutions will look so crisp and smooth, without jiggering or misaligned lines. This technology is paired with Mediatek’s Intelligent View technology which allows for the processing of multiple Dolby Vision streams simultaneously. Now, consumers can watch their favourite movies all at the same time, without compromising the quality for each multiple screens set.
“With our industry-leading chips, paired with astonishing visual and audio technologies powered by Dolby, MediaTek and Dolby are making truly immersive and cinematic entertainment experiences more accessible,” said Alex Chen, General Manager of the TV Business Unit at MediaTek. “MediaTek’s Pentonic series will make it easy for OEMs to bring Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail to the next generation of 8K and 4K smart TVs.”
The new Pentonic chips also improve your gameplay experience thanks to its intelligent AI paired with Precision Detail and Dolby Vision tech. Some notable improvements include 4K@120Hz resolution and refresh rate and improvements to latency through the Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) as well as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). VRR may be familiar to some smartphone users as this is the same technology that adapts the refresh rate, depending on the users’ activity and behaviour with their phones.
“For the past decade, Dolby Vision has continuously raised the bar of immersive entertainment experiences. Dolby Vision IQ continues this legacy by expanding the benefits of Dolby Vision beyond HDR through innovations like Precision Detail,” said Mathias Bendull, Vice President, Living Room at Dolby Laboratories. “We look forward to working with MediaTek and our OEM partners to bring stunning Dolby Vision images for more use cases to the next generation of 8K and 4K smart TVs.”
